A packet sniffer can view and analyze a wide variety of information that is being transmitted over the network and its connected nodes. A packet sniffer can either be software or hardware depending on the network infrastructure and can analyze sensitive information like usernames & passwords. They scan both inbound and outbound traffic for all the information transmitted over the network. When the data passes through the system, it captures and stores it in memory to analyze it later.

The analyzed data is then converted to a human-readable format so that the network experts can analyze the faults in their network. In layman terms, a packet analyzer is powerful enough to analyze all computers connected to a network and retrieve information like email contacts, messages, download history, browsing history and all audio/video activity on the network. There are many types of packet sniffing tools like ARP sniffing, IP sniffing, MAC sniffing, etc.

Get the latest Nmap for your system:WindowsmacOSLinux (RPM)Any other OS (source code)Older versions (and sometimes newer testreleases) are available from the Nmap release archive(and really old ones are in dist-old).For the moresecurity-paranoid (smart) users, GPG detached signatures and SHA-1hashes for each release are available in the sigsdirectory (verification instructions). HDD Serial Port Monitor is another friendly COM port sniffer for Windows, which allows monitoring and recording data from RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interfaces. This handy solution will help you easily analyze serial port activity and detect any issues with serial data communications.

This serial port sniffer will also display the transferred data in any format (hexadecimal, decimal, or any other). This way you can identify the repeated sequence of data blocks without closing the monitoring app.

The compact hardware unit is designed to record data communicated between two devices over the RS232 protocol. Together with the Avisaro Data Logger app, this sniffer box is used to capture data transmitted in both the Rx and Tx directions and store it in a table format. That means you can use Excel or any text editor to read your serial data.

This RS232 packet analyzer can monitor full and half duplex serial communications and stream data to a dedicated RS232CPM COM monitor application. As well as an active rs232 sniffer cable that monitors the DTE/DCE and RTS/CTS lines in addition and Tx/Rx lines. EZ-Tap RS232 Pro is equipped with a male DB9 connector on one end and a female DB9 connector on the other end. Thanks to this, it can be inserted between two COM-based devices that need to be sniffed.

The Hardware Serial Tap is a simple yet efficient sniffer tailored for monitoring of RS232, RS485, and TTL-level UART communications. This sniffer board is natively supported via the Serial Tap plugin.

So first things first: What do we mean when we say "packet sniffer?" A packet sniffer is simply a piece of software that allows you to capture packets on your network. Tcpdump and Wireshark are examples of packet sniffers. Tcpdump provides a CLI packet sniffer, and Wireshark provides a feature-rich GUI for sniffing and analyzing packets.

Another great use case for a packet sniffer is pedagogical. Watching the packets involved in an application exchange can go a long way toward improving your understanding of the underlying protocols. For example, it can be invaluable to observe the full packet flow of a recursive DNS query when trying to understand how DNS works.

The Xpress Setup Program can be downloaded from theMobileCollect Software & Firmware Updates page. RF Sniffer Program The MobileCollect RF Sniffer allows you to determine the amount of RF communications occurring on each of the RF channels that can be used by MobileCollect. The Sniffer takes 500 measurements on a channel and determines for each measurement if there was any RF activity. After the measurements are taken on a channel, the Sniffer moves to the next channel and repeats the process. It takes approximately .096 seconds (96 msec) to capture the 500 measurements on a channel. The total time to scan all 16 channels is about 1.6 seconds. For more information, download theRF Sniffer Program User's Guide.

The RF Sniffer Program is included with the Xpress and Extended Setup Programs. WedgeLink Xpress Keyboard Wedge Program WedgeLink Xpress is a software keyboard wedge designed to work with MobileCollect Bases. A keyboard wedge reads data from a serial port and passes this data to a PC application in such a manner that the application thinks the data is entered via the keyboard. Keyboard wedges are commonly used with applications such as Microsoft Excel and other data database programs.WedgeLink Xpress can be downloaded from theMobileCollect Software & Firmware Updates page. ComTestSerial Serial Communications TestProgram The ComTestSerial serial communications test program allows you to test communications with any serial device.
